LULAC Council #10 of Davenport was founded in 1959. Since that time it has grown in membership and prestige. Its primary focus is promoting the education of Hispanic youth. Every year LULAC awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to Hispanic and other students of the area. Since 1978 LULAC Council #10 has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships to 673 students. Funds are raised by Council 10 locally through a BINGO operation at its Activity Center and corporate and individual donations. Other activities are providing educational forums, seminars, and workshops such as meet the candidates, seminars on immigration and income tax matters, and workshops on leadership development and civic participation. LULAC members are frequently called upon to represent the Hispanic community by the city, school district, and to serve on community committees and commissions.
